Auckland in 50 years' time

I am in love with this city. The vibe of this place is similar to back home but it just has more things and more people, giving the city a life that is still missing in Auckland. I would go further and say though that the people are way friendlier here and so open minded. I haven't yet had the sense of people holding prejudices despite being an even more multicultural society than Auckland.

A quick rundown of past events:

Flight was comfortable. Entertainment system was not as good as I had expected, no real good movies. I watched Mission Impossible 3 and some movie about the end of the world starring Steve Carrell.

I forgot to book my seats and didn't get a window seat. Luckily I did get an aisle seat and I sat next to a really nice older lady who told me a lot about Canada.

Immigration staff were soulless robots, I felt like I was an accused criminal being cross-examined. It must be in their contracts, I'm sure they're great people in real life.

My friend Elsa picked me up from the airport and took me to their rented basement. It's a really nice place, it will probably the most comfortable place I'll be staying in.

We went to the nearby Asian shop to get some food, was exactly like the Asian shops back home. Then I crashed early from being rather jet-lagged. Got woken up at 8pm and we went to Stepho's, a Greek cuisine restaurant, was pretty good.

Got up today and tried to get a phone from the mall, but turns out it's kind of not easy to get a SIM card to work in overseas phones. I think I'm just gonna do without it.

Went to Granville island afterward, had a walk around and had fish and chips at the market, took the ferry across to downtown, went to a Hip Hop class, was dead tired from that and crashed at some cheap Japanese restaurant for dinner, wandered a little more around downtown then bussed home.

Other quick thoughts:

Displayed prices almost always don't have GST included. Not a very nice system to have.

Tipping is custom I could do without. I don't mind paying for the service- I just mind having to figure out how much to give every time. Just pay the people decently already.

Public transportation here is affordable and I love how you can use a ticket for up to 90 minutes, as long as you stay within the zone you pay for.

Hopefully the weather clears up a little for the next couple of days. Will update again soon.
