Running, running, and running running

I've made a last minute decision to change my flights.

My outbound flight will be at 6:30pm instead of 3:45pm on the same day. I was originally thinking that a 3.5 hour layover in Sydney might be fun, but I sort of thought that I might just get tired and not buy anything. Airport merch is always expensive.

My return flights are for the 28th of February instead of the 16th. Initially I had planned to change my flights much later on, when I had confirmed my itinerary for my month of rampage in February. But yesterday, while bored at work, I saw that the dates I could change to were quickly disappearing, so I decided to go ahead and lock in those later dates. Uni starts on the 28th, so I'm only going to miss the first two days of semester. That unfortunately means I'm missing out on Uniguides (our student mentor programme for first years/freshers) which I am quite gutted about. Actually my original flights back for the 15th was because I wanted to make Uniguides. But I figured that I might regret not making the most of the time I could have in Japan - so, sorry UG leaders.

Basically: I depart AKL on 15th September 6:30pm; arrive AKL 1 March 2:20pm.

Changing my flights was a pain. Long story short, changing it via web last night wouldn't work - an error came up after the payment page saying the flights could not be confirmed, even though seats at my fare basis were clearly available. A half and hour phone call to Qantas resulted in nothing ("Sorry, there's nothing we can do unless you book a higher fare [at least another $500]"). I sent a lengthy email to Qantas about how their systems were fail. Then I tried again this morning and it worked without a hitch. Hmm.
