I'm sorry I haven't updated this in a while. After we left Hokkaido, I spent a last couple of days hanging around in Tokyo - catching up with friends before jetting off again for a week in Okinawa. It was amazing. Then it was another flight to Tokyo, and two days before returning to my home country. And after the overnight flight, a short amount of sleep, I was on the bus the next day heading into class at Auckland Uni. Since then it's been all go, with my fourth year engineering projects and a bunch of other things.
So in short, a very big apology for the sudden disappearance and that: yes I am alive.
The earthquake that hit the Tohoku region occured about two weeks after I arrived back home. I am grateful that none of my friends were amongst those hit hardest in the regions. However a very large proportion of them were sent home by their home institutions, which is something I feel very sorry about. I can't imagine how they felt being pulled out so suddenly. I had months to mentally prepare myself for the disappointment with having to return home, so many of my friends, many of whom were not allowed to return to their dorm to collect their belongings, were pretty hard done by.
I will be updating my blog with the remainder of my travels in Japan once this semester is over because I still want to fulfil the goal of this being a complete testament of my journey overseas.
Regarding the future of this blog, it will be primarily an archive of my time in Japan. But if I ever return (which I surely hope I do!) I will be sure to continue my updates on this site. In the mean time, I might use this to post miscellaneous Japan-related things.
Speaking of which, I found a really interesting article by one of the very cool blogs I follow, The Daily Onigiri entitled 18 things you will only see in Japan.
じゃ、また!
