When things don't quite go your way

I finally heard back from the Auckland Abroad office, and before she even said a word, her hesitation was enough warning to tell me that I wouldn't get my first option. "I know that's not the news you were wanting to hear" is not the most comforting thing to hear, but then again I do sympathise with their dilemma, having to whittle down three applicants for the one spot.
The reason the other person got it was because they were applying for a whole year instead of one semester. And though I have my suspicions, I'll take it as if that were the real and complete reason anyway. There's no use crying over spilt milk.

Yes, I am really disappointed. And I don't quite know how to react. I have been nominated to go to Sophia University in Tokyo however, along with 4 other people (none of whom I know). So this doesn't necessarily mean the end of the Japan dream.

For now I just need to collect my thoughts and decide if I still want to do this. I have a week to decide so you'll hear from me before then.
